Main Street
It's a struggle for small stores in rural US main streets to survive.
The lure of the shopping mall being what it is has created a dire
situation for the old type store. The reality is that the small main
street store has fallen on hard times. What was once a street that had
all sorts of stores now it has been transformed in so called antique
shoppes and eateries. Too bad. Here are a few shots of Main Street in
Honesdale, PA this summer.

Back to Trapani
No trip to Western Sicily is complete without a visit to Trapani. This very ancient city is so much similar geographically to Ithaca that some famous English historians believe that the Odyssey was written here. But I digress. This city is just wonderful and the centro storico
has been transformed into a pedestrian zone with severely limited auto
traffic so one may enjoy the area at leisure and free from the annoying
car and motorini traffic that plagues Italy.

Mike's horses
These horses belong to one of my dearest friends, Mike Nigro, whom I befriended many years ago in college and our frienship has never diminished. He and his wife Marcella hosted us at the end of our spring trip to Italy in their quaint "agriturismo" in Miasino, Piedmont. This is very near Lago D'Orta a lovely lake. It is an understatement to say that Mike loves his horses which he cares for with true TLC. All in all it was a great way to relax after a grueling
trip that included a lot of driving and a flight to Sicily. It was worth
it.
