The new Coney Island

Coney Island during the seventies and until the new century had been allowed to decay. I have posted many images from that sad period. It wasn't until the private sector realized that there was still great potential. This led to a  very welcome revival and modernization that did take away some of the old charm. But that's progress. These  images were shot on a wintry day when the place assumes a wonderful character.

I misteri, the mysteries

This somber pageant, i misteri is carried out on Good Friday and depicts the Madonna searching for the body of Jesus. Italian immigrants continue this tradition as the statue almost assumes human form. Catholicism is rather strange in it's great number of practices whose biblical foundations are rather vague to non existent. Nevertheless these manifestations of faith create great photo ops. These photos date from the middle seventies and were shot in Carrol Gardens, Brooklyn. All shot on Tri-X with a Leica M-4.

One of my very first

This Kodachrome II shot dates from September of 1967. I used a borrowed Kodak Retina folding 135 camera. I owned no cameras at that time. It is one of the images that sort of awakened my interest in photography and it's still one of my favorites.

Winter images

I do not have to go far to shoot winter images. Luckily I live near a big NYC park and with my trusted iPhone the images are all around me. This makes this dreadful season easier to take. We have not seen any snow yet so these images are from a few years ago. Snow, snow, stay away.
