Abstractions

Again these photos are from the seventies a time when I was experimenting and would shoot  a lot.Now I keep finding stuff in my archives all the time since I'm trying to get my images together. Not an easy task; I'm afraid.

Have a lovely weekend

Ethnic parade

Being a super multi ethnic city, New York must host countless ethnic parades. These images dating from August of 1985 are from the Dominican Day Parade. People had a lot of fun both as parade participants and as spectators. This is one more item that makes the Big Apple so special and so unique. It must be stated that being still at it's infancy, this parade went up 6th Avenue officially names Avenue of the Americans. No "real" New Yorker will ever call it that preferring the original name of 6th Avenue.

The Varrazzano Bridge

That is the correct spelling, BTW. This bridge, probably the last of it's kind  because all the environmental regulations will preclude such a massive structure, is always a source of fascination to me. I love this ethereal image in black and white.

Neighbors

This examples of street photography dates from 1986 and was shot on Mulberry Street in the then thriving Manhattan's Little Italy. Now it's full of souvenir shops and mediocre restaurants that cater to tourists. There are practically no Italians left as China Town has expanded north of Canal street. All things change. What I like about the image  are the hairdos. They thought that they were being so stylish and attractive. Go figure.

Early morning walk

Every morning, rain or shine, I must take a walk with my dog. Fortunately I reside very near a wonderful city park so this affords me the opportunity to take a picture or two. Some come out good and some get deleted. That's life.

Candid portraits

In my years as a pro, I took many portraits. I usually preferred to capture people at their work doing their work. This made the shoot more natural. Very little lighting equipment was used and may times such as this one I used available light. As simple as possible but not more so. This woman was a social worker at an institution on Long Island, NY. After formal attempts, the simplest shot was the best.
