A very sharp woman

Photography has the ability to capture and preserve moments in time. Because of modern film and digital, the images no longer appear dated. Perhaps the clothing changes and in the older photos there are no smart phones. I often wonder what happened to the people in the shots. Where did they go afterwards; what did they do. These photos were shot in June of 1978 during the annual Saint Juan Day celebration. It is one of the most colorful event in the ethnic calendar of the big city. Another reason to love New York.

It's always the light

Very late in the day or late evening to be precise. This magical light is ephemeral and one must be very alert to catch it. The results can be wonderful.

The real Lttle Italy

The Arthur avenue Little Italy in the Belmont section of the Bronx is the last true little Italy. The one in Manhattan is actually an extension of China Town with a few Italian restaurants of variable quality thrown in. These are mostly for tourists so this area it no longer qualifies. Here in the Bronx, people still live here and although there is a hipster component the area has retained it's charm. The indoor market is a wonderful place to shop and to have lunch. Some of the stores are rather pricy but those cater to tourists. I love this place as it's one of my favorite venues in the Big Apple.

Time to decorate the pumkins

It's that time of the year again. The pumpkin reigns supreme from pumpkin flavored cookies to pumpkin flavored coffe and even cappuccino. But it's nice to see kids decorate real pumpkins. These photos were shot at a UM Church in Glendale Queens. The kids were all engrossed in their painting and although results varied, everyone had a good time.

Have a great week, capture the light.
