Oscar Barnak, the inventor of the Leica will always be in the heart of anyone who appreciates fine photography i.e anyone familiar with the Leica mystique and cameras . Leitz Wetzlar came upon hard times due to but not solely to the digital revolution, and eventually, after many reorganizations, it finally sold the Leica name, factory, patents etc to a new company known simply as Leica. Their high standards have been maintained but their prices are , as usual, astronomical. The M8 and M9 along with the NF S2 are the results of the new venture. So now Leica has offered an Oskar Barnak Prize. It applies only to young photographers; shades of age discrimination? But it's nice to know that Oskar Barnak is being honored and remembered.
