Award to Tamron.

TAMRON has been one of the most respected manufacturer of non original brand lenses. My first zoom lens back in 1974 was a Tamron 70-210 in it's Adaptal mount. They have basically been on a two tract development road map for many years.. One is the all in one type of lenses and the other is the more serious and better built shorter range lenses. The all in ones are usually plasticky, light and good for travel mainly. We have never been to fond of them as they are really too amateurish for our taste. It's interesting that a PRO organization has awarded this all in one top honors. There's no way any pro will go on a job with such a lens. This opinion is based on the fact that pros like to show off their large and long lenses. If the reader infers some Freudian dimension we will not disagree.

Tamron's 18-270mm All-In-One Zoom Wins "Hot One" Award from Professional Photographer Magazine

The 8-270mm Di II VC PZD (Model B008) is the smallest and lightest 15x zoom lens on the market today, a fact that was certainly appreciated by Professional Photographer Magazine in choosing the lens as the "Hot One" for the year 2012.

"As one of the photo industry's biggest and most respected equipment competitions, the Hot One Awards represents the best new gear as chosen by a panel of independent professional photographers," says Hot One editor Jeff Kent. "This year's winners are a collection of innovative new products from a group of companies performing at the top of their game."

The 18-270mm all-in-one lens features Tamron's new Piezo Drive for autofocus and a Vibration Compensation mechanism to stabilize your images. You can buy it now on Amazon for $649 with a $50 mail-in rebate.
