Photo of the day, Jan. 24 2010 Nikon D700

My summer lunch. Hard Italian bread, is there any other kind of bread? with sea salt from Sicily and Italian olive oil. Sliced plum tomatoes also spinkled with salt and oil. The cheese is Sicilian primo sale pepato and the olives are also Sicilian from Castelvetrano. A touch od oregano could have been used but it can be too overpowering at times. Really delicious. Shot with the D700 and the 60mm f 2.8 Micro Nikkor. Just natural window light, no fills of any kind.

An Halloween party for a client's children party. The S2 pro has the Nikkor 24-65 2.8-4 on it. Halloween of 2004.

In memoriam Grazia D'Ancona , my beloved aunt.

No photo of the day today. Just an image of my aunt Grazia, actually my second mother, who passed away on 1-19-2010. She will be missed. Her indefatigable thirst for life was an inspiration. They do not make persons like these any more. Rest in peace aunt Grazia.

OSKAR BARNAK AWARDS

Oscar Barnak, the inventor of the Leica will always be in the heart of anyone who appreciates fine photography i.e anyone familiar with the Leica mystique and cameras . Leitz Wetzlar came upon hard times due to but not solely to the digital revolution, and eventually, after many reorganizations, it finally sold the Leica name, factory, patents etc to a new company known simply as Leica. Their high standards have been maintained but their prices are , as usual, astronomical. The M8 and M9 along with the NF S2 are the results of the new venture. So now Leica has offered an Oskar Barnak Prize. It applies only to young photographers; shades of age discrimination? But it's nice to know that Oskar Barnak is being honored and remembered. Cut and paste this address to get details. http://www.leica-oskar-barnack-award.com/#/en/applying/to-take-part

Photo of the day, Jan 18 2010 Canon 5DII

Image
Please don't get tired of the face of my dog Charlie. I'm still fooling aroung with the 5DII and this time I used a portable LCD panel, the dlc Video and DSLR LED Light [DL-DV60]. The reason why I bought it is not because of its versatility as a fill light but as a focusing light. I do jobs in very dark rooms, cocktail receptions, for example. In these venues, there really is no light to speak of. The LED panel could come in handy. We shall see. The setting used was Tungsten WB and it did give a bluish tint that could be ameliorated by dialing in a higher Kelvin color temperature. The lens was the SIGMA 50mm Macro 2.8 abd the ISO was 800. There was no noise. The RAW image was processed by Canon's Photo Professional.
