San Gennaro's feast, many years ago

The San Gennaro's feast on Mulberry Street, Manhattan, in what was once Little Italy has just concluded. It is not what it used to be but what is. These Ektachrome slide scans date from 1971 and show bits and pieces of the feast. One can call them abstractions except for the statue of the "saint manque." San Gennaro's sainthood is rather specious but when the Holy See wanted to demote him, the Neapolitans whose patron he is made such a fuss that he was quietly re instated. You didn't want to mess with the man minding the money on the statue.
