The canopy over the main entrance of Palermo's cathedral. Here are buried the remains of Frederick II, both Holy Roman Emperor and King of the kingdom of Sicily. This is really the real beginning of the Renaissance. He was called stupor mundi, wonder of the world. Because his influence was such that the Papal states were sourrounded, it is said that the Pope had him poisoned thus ended this glorious period and the rest is ,as they say, history. At any rate, this is a lovely Norman church and a must visit for anyone visiting Palermo, Sicily, a truly amazing city.
