 Peperoni alla siciliana
, bell peppers Sicilian style. In Italy the term pepperoni is reserved for peppers and not for the hot sausage sold in the US. A tourist who orders a pepperoni pizza will get it with sweet bell peppers. This dish is not the traditional peperonata in which the peppers are stewed; instead no cover is used and the peppers and onions are fried in not too much oil and are constantly strirred so that they cook evenly. An example of complex simplicity. At the end muddica atturrata or toasted breadcrumbs are added and the result is delightful. a great side dish.
