Shot in Piazza Petrolo in Castellammare del Golfo during the Festa del Ventuno D'Agosto. or the feast of the 21st of August in honor of the Madonna del Soccorso the patron Saint of the town. These two youung ladies dressed in evening clothes were perusing these stalls that were selling very cheap trinkets. It did make for a nice composition.

Slow shutter speed

This technique is usually used to create the feeling of motion. Here I had no choice as the light was low and I didn't want to pump up the ISO lest noise artifacts show their ugly faces. This is a folk group from the Egadi Islands off Sicily that graciously performed during our feast of the ventuno d'agosto. The annual big feast in Castellammare.

Le bancarelle

Bancarella is the name of a table of sorts  or space used by street vendors. It is the site where they sell their wares at feasts or fairs. In the States you see them in Italian feasts in larger cities. This bancarella featured a maker of almond candy. Made with Sicilian almonds that are renowned for their intense flavor, they are placed in a large frying pan with sugar. Before the sugar hardens, they are placed on a platform mixed with a large flat knife, then flattened and finally cut up into rectangular pieces for vending. This man was totally involved in the finishing process. The Canon G-11 was used. Shot at ISO 800. Not bad. Much better than the G-9 in this respect.

Procession / Olympus E-10

These shots of the procession of the Feast of August 21st in Castellammare show that this by now ancient digicam was quite capable of satisfying shots. Such shots are not easy for a sensor that has only 4 mega pixels.
