 The very interesting city of Mazara del Vallo. It has many narrow streets but as you can see this one has a modern boutique that sells very expensive Italian shoes. This is a very rich city because it has the largest fishing fleet in Europe. The sea food restaurants here are divine. Certainly worth a visit. It is located south of the famous wine city of Marsala.

  Boasting the largest fishing fleet in Italy and one of the largest in Europe, Mazara del Vallo, Sicily has the freshest sea Food around. When I'm in Sicily I make a few trips to my favorite restaurant there with the ridiculous name of "Baby Luna," but the food is great and so is the service. This fried calamari antipasto is the real deal. You haven't tasted calamari like these; they have the aroma of the sea and the taste of heaven.

 You have not eaten fried shrimp and calamari until you go to Mazara del Vallo in Sicily, here is the largest fishing fleet in Europe and naturally the sea food is fresh and delicious. The town has a plethora of restaurants all excellent. Italians will not eat in a bad restaurant.

What can I say, I miss my Sicily and the fact that this quarantine seems to linger with no light at the end of the proverbial tunnel is enough to really annoy me.

Leave it to young people to know how to have fun. We were in Mazara del Vallo in a piazza whe suddenly this contraption appeared. The smiles on the kids was contagious.

Mazaea del Vallo

This ancient city in north west Sicily sports the largest fishing fleet in Europe. Naturally we always visit to have great seafood dishes. Besides the food, this small city is marvelous in it's architecture.
It has a superb lungomare, or promenade, a very nice town park, large piazze and a magnificent cathedral. It is a must place to visit in Sicily. If you do, try the pasta con sarde. Pasta with sardines, you will not be sorry.

These photos of the cathedral of Mazara del Vallo in Sicily attest to what can be achieved with a simple point and shoot camera. They are from the summer of 2006 and the camera was the Canon  Powershot 620 that sported a mere 6 megapixels. It was small and very portable and it was really the beginning of the idea of leaving the big cameras at home when traveling. The camera doesn't take the picture...you know the rest.
At any rate, Mazara is a very rich small city that has the largest fishing fleet in Europe. In this cathedral - it is a see- are supposedly relics of the lungs of saint Vitus, the city's patron saint. The whole idea sounds rather macabre but for the faithful this is normal. Who am I to say what's macabre or what is normal. I just take the pictures.
