Castellammare del Golfo, Sicily, my beloved birthplace. Houses that are now restructured and made into B&B's as the town becomes more and more touristy.

The magnificent Vittorio Emanuele Galleria in Milan, Italy. Take the left gallery and you are in front of the La Scala Opera House. Just magnificent.

 Beautiful, fresh and delicious Sicilian oranges they are like no others.

     The glory that is Rome especially at dusk.

    Eating in Sicily is a seriously delicious affair.  These are grilled calamari, super fresh at the La Cambusa restaurant at the tourist port in Castellammare del Golfo.

Having fun

Leave it to young people to know how to have fun. We were in Mazara del Vallo in a piazza whe suddenly this contraption appeared. The smiles on the kids was contagious.

They may call it sunny Italy but it rains thee also. Umbrellas always make for interesting photos. 

La campagna toscana

The Tuscan countryside is a work of art. Everything is well tended and the hand of man is visible everywhere. It is a joy to behold.

Can you believe this?

Venice is so overrun by tourists that authorities are thinking of limiting their daily number. How this will be enforced is another matter.

When it gets tough to find photos to post, there's always Venice. Magical.

Another leaning tower

This leaning tower  is in the canal parallel to the on on which the famous Bridge of Sighs is [ il Ponte dei sospiri ]. There are many such structures in Italy.

Agrigento, long ago

These images date from 1972 and are from the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento [Agrakas] Sicily.  They were taken with a Canon FT and with Kodachrome film. No photo shop tricks used then or now on these images. I wonder where the little girl who was part of a wedding party is today. She is most likely a grand mother. Photography is funny that way.

Firenze, archival slide scans

These images date from August of 1969 and were shot on Agfachrome 50 that did not remain color true. The film was cheaper than Kodachrome but the quality was not that good. Today with digital there is no film cost but in the old days film and processing were a considerable expense. In many cases black and white conversion is the only remedy. to preserve the images. Once more I wonder where time  went...how it flew...But as you can see there were co crowds then. No smart phones, no selfies and no congestion. Life was really good.
