Remember when it was so cool to smoke? This street photography image was made with a Nikon FTn and a 35mm F 2.8 Nikkor lens. The location is Bed Stuy Brooklyn in the late seventies. This area has been since gentrified for the benefits of the so-called hipsters.

Before gentrification

The word gentrification, recently coined, has many negative and positive connotations. I will not get into polemics because this is outside the scope of this blog. Needless to say, many neighborhoods have been transformed. These images from the eighties show areas of Brooklyn's Bed-Stuy show the conditions of these areas before they were rebuilt. I am only interested in the images.

Coney Island, archival photos

Coney Island used to be called the "playground of the world" when the world was much less sophisticated. Nevertheless, it always had a great fascination for me especially off season. These are scans from slides shot in the seventies.
