Rural alley

In small towns one can still get a flavor of things as they once were. This alley that once was thriving is now in a state od decay. Too bad.

The old courthouse

Typically in small towns across the land, the courthouse is usually the most imposing building. Most were built in the 19th century and feature cool architectural styles that were all  forgotten by modernism and the Bauhaus movement. Most new courthouses and municipal buildings look like factories and are quickly dated. However, these old structure have a classic and lasting feel that renders them endearing. This is the Wayne County, PA. courthouse in Honesdale.

More medium format images

These archival shots date from the late eighties and were shot on Tri-X. I do not recall the camera I used. They are from woods in north east Pennsylvania. I used an Epson V-600 to scan them.

Classic back alley

In Pennsylvania's small tows there are these lovely alleys that run parallel to the streets. They provide a sort of escape into a more secluded and peaceful setting. This alley is in Milford, PA and was shot ona cloudy early spring day.

Old trains

Strasburg, PA is a wonderful place to visit. The town is old and quaint in an authentic way. It is the home of the Pennsylvania Rail Road Museum and a wonderful old station with coal locomotives that features a very nice train ride. A real must place to visit if one goes to Lancaster County.

Classic farmers market

The farmers market in Scranton is an institution that goes way back. It is open fem July to the day before Thanksgiving. The quality of the produce, breads, cheeses etc, is great and the prices are high like in the stands that you find along the roads. You can also eat there although the food is not of the highest quality. It is, nevertheless a wonderful venue.

One image

Sometimes it takes only one image to capture the soul of a place or event. In my humble opinion this image says it all about Lancaster County PA.

The countdown to Halloween, that is. It's a new phenomenon because Halloween is no longer a treat or trick holiday for children. Grown up are going all out to decorate homes and participate in costumes along with the children. These shots are from Main Street in Honesdale, PA where the town id gearing up for Halloween.
