Another walk in the park to enjoy these wonderful trees as they shoe off their young leaves leaves shining like a plethora of jewels when photographed against sunlight.  

I tend to get sentimental at this time of the year. Back to Pisa in August 1969. We were some of the last people allowed to climb to the top pf the leaning tower. It was soon shut down to visitors and more work was started to prevent it from toppling down. It was an experience to say the least.

Celebrate Columbus Day / Mangiate pasta

 Eat your hearts out you self called native Americans or indigenous people. When you open indigenous cuisine restaurants all over the world we can change the name of Columbus day. Give it a rest. I will only post pasta dishes. But there's also pizza, ravioli, lasagne, tortellini, triangoli, strozzapreti, risotti et. al. Naturally, espressi and cappuccini, macchiati and caffe' latte. Cannoli, cassate, tirami su and sfogliatelle also come to mind.Did I mention gelati?  Let's not forget the splendid regional dishes that are all varied, delicious and healthful. Just for it's immense culinary contribution a national holiday or a world holiday should be proclaimed. BTW the name America is Italian and forks and spoons also came from Italy. I could go on and on. So relax and enjoy the pasta. I usually stay away from controversy but this is really silly. Buon appetito; life is too short to eat and drink badly.

Northampton

Just returned from Northampton on Long Island where we visited some friends. Just a couple shots to remember the place.

The last bridge?

Because of the hypersensitivity to environmental issues, it appears likely that no more great bridges will be built. The Verrazzano Narrows Bridge [ two z's is the correct spelling] appears to be the last one. It is a magnificent  awe inspiring structure.

Photos for a quiet Sunday

The main purpose of this blog is to provide a peaceful place to visit while browsing the web. A respite from the hype and noise that bombards us in ever increasing frequency. These two shots from very early digital days, convey such sense  of peace.

Night shot

Digital photography is really too easy. This shot of the old station in Mystic, Conn shows how the lack of reciprocity failure in digital makes a photo like this possible with relative ease.  

 

The public photo

Here we have a couple in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. It always amuses me when a man takes the photo of a woman in front of flowers because the background becomes the main attraction and not the person. This brings us to another type of people picture and that is the one in a public place where there really are no rules. The concept of the decisive moment applies here. You see the shot and take it. A smile at the subject and some conversation will usually make it OK and you have the shot without hassles or the feeling that you somehow stole it.

Wonderful Grace

These photos are of a very wonderful person who was a cousin to my father in law and who lived in Washington DC. She was a true character and I consider myself fortunate in having known her.

I used the Leica M-4 with the 35mm Summicron and Tri-X. These photos are from the spring of 1970.
