Riso e fagioli or rice and beans but in this case in the Italian style. I used leeks, garlic and bacon and a small piece of fresh peperoncino. A heart warming and delicious dish.

I needed a quick, easy and nutritious dish for warmth and comfort. A can of quality chick peas, a leek and some good olive oil. A dash of fresh black pepper closed the dish. What else can I say.
 

 At Christmas eve and New Year's Eve it's imprescindibile or impossible to live out, fried baccala. My mother used to simply fried coated with flour but I used pastella or batter instead. Just wonderful.

 Nothing is wasted in the kitchen and at times leftovers come to the rescue when I'm too busy or tired to cook. Of course this happens rarely because cooking is my passion. Here I used the stewed lentils and mushrooms along with stewed cauliflower. Simple and very satisfying.

Capturing the morning glow

This is an example when an iPhone is simply not up to the task. Nevertheless, the images have a certain flair and are posted as an example only. But one must always shoot no matter what camera one carries. After all the camera doesn't take the pictures.

Sicilian Folk Group

This Folk Group from the Egadi Islands of Sicily performed during Castellammare del Golfo's feast to the Madonna del Soccorso. It's the main feast and the culmination of the many summer activities.

The power of the lens

A camera can be used for many purposes. Unfortunately, today it's being used increasingly to curtail our privacy. Here I attended an affordable housing demonstration in Manhattan a few years ago. The images were to be used for Catholic Charities, my client in support of making housing available to low income tenants.

In Central Park, many years ago

Shot at the boat house in the month of February many years ago. The film was Ektachrome 100 that I got in bulk rolls and developed with  Unicolor chemicals. The camera was the Nikon Ftn with the 105mm F 1.5 Nikkor lens that I still have. 

The quiet side of Venice

For all the confusion and congestion that one usually sees in Venice, there's a reality of almost total quiet just around the corner. Venice is actually a very underpopulated city with very few actual residents and with most of the people who work there living in nearby Mestri. It's almost like a theme park. Just leave one of the main tourist filled streets and another quiet and depopulated Venice becomes evident. It's actually uncanny.These are from April of 2011, our last visit there and were shot with the Olympus EPL-2, We are just itching to get back. Population issues aside, this is an uniquely fascinating and magical place.

Music in the park / Central Park in the seventies [Part 1]

Street musicians would gather in the park. Some good, others great, while some were so so. But it didn't matter. Being there and making the scene was all that mattered. The park today is full of people using their smart phones while being totally disconnected with the reality around them.What can I say. Here are some of the great ones.
