A first for me unshelled vava beans with lettuce. I went to a farmers market and  found something that looked like curly escarole but it turned out to be curly lettuce. I cooked it and the results were superb. Who knew.

 By now you know that I'm crazy about fava beans. This dish consists of Italian spaghetti in a fava beans sauce that departs from the usual vegetarian way because I added bacon strips. It created a memorable combination of flavors that delighted the palate. I added some chives for decoration.

 Classic Sicilian cold weather fare: pasta 'cu maccu, or pasta with dried fava beans. A very healthy dish that is rich in fiber and protein. I'm crazy for fava beans, fresh or died.
