Another archival Kodachrome II shot in Sicily in the summer of 1969. This place is gone, replaced by new vacation homes. The camera was the Canon FT with the Canon 50mm F 1.4 FL lens. I just love this shot.

If there's a dish that unites Italy gastronomically it's this dish: spaghetti aglio, olio e peperoncino or spaghetti with garlic, oil and hot pepper. Here I used fresh pepper instead of the crushed, dry variety. This is a classic dish that restores your stomach and your soul. It's very simple and economical. The parsley adds a freshness and decorates the dish.

When you are in a hurry pasta e fagioli saves the day. This is the way my mother used to prepare it after she came home from work as a seamstress. She had no time for  frills, no soffritto. Just olive oil, a little chopped onion and a can of kidney beans. She saved the fancy dishes for Sunday dinners.

Shot way back June 1970, on State Street in Brookyn. The children were looking out of a ground floor window in an old tenement on a hot day. The film was Kodak Tri-X and the camera was a Canon FT with the wonderful Canon 58 mm F 1:4 FL lens.

There's nothing better that pasta with chickpeas. It fills you up and it' great in the fall. A simple and economical dish.

Sometimes black and white is called for. This idyllic autumnal image was shot on Kodak Tri-X Pro, 120 format on my Rolleiflex. The venue is Hawley, Pennsylvania.

This delicious dish looks Chinese but it's spaghetti with sausage, mushrooms and peas. Parsley was sprinkled for a sense of freshness.

You cannot take the same picture twice. This photo of Juniper Valley Park in Queens, NYC, could never be repeated fall after fall. I just love this digital image shot with the Canon 5D and the 16-35mm  FD Canon lens. Just lovely.

Imported Italian tagliatelle in a simple diced tomatoes sauce. What could be better when there's little time to prepare a nice lunch.

This is one of my all time favorites photos that dates back to 1973. The place was Quebec City early on a cloudy day. The film was Kodachrome II and the camera was a Nifon  Ftn with the 35mm F 2.8 Nikon lens. I just love the mood.

This is the classic fritto misto or mixed fried sea food plate that it typical in Italian  restaurants towns and cities by the sea. This particular one is from the Nostromo restaurant in Rapallo, Liguria, Italy. Of course the sea food was super fresh and the aroma and flavor was to die for. BTW, the color on the shrimp is real!

Words fail me in front of this exquisite work of art. It may be the best piece of sculpture in the world. This image dates back to August of 1969, my first trip to Florence.

Fooling around with a polarizing filter in those wonderful film days. This image dates from the mid seventies. The film was Kodak Kodachrome II with the Nikon FTn and the 135 mm Nikkor F 2.8 lens. Today it's easier to create such dramatic effects using in camera digital filters.

Avery simple, fast, healthy and economical dish. Orecchiette with crisp broccoli. A sprinkle of black pepper and a round of raw EVO completed the dish. Delicious.

An Agfachrome slide dating from 1972. A fisherman making a small crate to trap fish. The colors on this slide film weren't as stable as on Kodachrome. The location is Scopello, Sicily. I used my Canon FT with the Canon 50mm F 1.4 FL lens. It's a nice candid.

There's nothing healthier than a minestrone based on kale and beans. Here the soup is served on a bed of  couscus. Simply delicious.

This Kodachrome slide scan shows the prow of the Ambrose a light-tower ship that guided incoming vessels arriving in New York harbor. It was moored at thr South Street Seaport in Manhattan and tourists could go up and explore.

Delicious cauliflowers such as these can be purchased at local vegetables stores in my area because they come for the remaining farms out on Long Island. They are versatile and very nutritious. My favorite way of preparing them is with lentils. Very appropriate for autumnal meals.

A classic example of traditional Italian cuisine, spaghetti alle vongole verace or spaghetti with little clams or vongole as they are called. It's actually quite simple to make but it takes some preparation in cleaning the clams and ridding them of any sand, Naturally, very high-quality ingredients are a must.

This pigeon looking out of a window was in a dilapidated building ready to be rebuilt in Castellammare del Golfo Sicily.
