Say bye bye to Aperture

Image
The folks at Apple haves announced that they will end development of their Aperture photo editing application.  Instead, they  focus on the upcoming Photos for OS X software, which will be included in the next version of Mac OS X (Yosemite). They will ensure compatibility with the next version of OS X that will allow the importing of one's Aperture library into the new Photos app.   This can only be a boon to Lightroom and to Adobe. I am beginning to believe that the Widows system is better suited for serious photographers. I am talking about Wisows 7. Windows 8 is of course another matter.

Have a wonderful weekend

Honesdale, PA

Image
This wonderful town, Wayne County's seat, is the birth place of American rail roads. It has an interesting museum but it also sports a yard with old trains and offers s few train rides during the holiday season. These photos are of newly arrived old cars.

The view from The Highline

Image
The Highline has quickly become ab important place for New yorkers to stroll and relax. It offers peace and tranquility plus great views.

I already miss spring

Image
Actually we did not have a real spring in these parts this year and I only got to go to my favorite garden just a few times. I just love tulips when they are at their glory.

Coney Island

Image
Once called by New Yorkers the playground of the world - people in the Big Apple do have a deserved but overblown image of themselves - this once really fun place fell victim to economic prosperity. People now travel and even the Hampton are becoming passé. The beach is still there but many of the old rides are not. Coney Island is sadly a place where you go if you cannot afford to go anywhere else. Nevertheless, it still has it's charm. These are some of my favorite shots from the film days. All shot with Kodachrome II and scanned. Some of these places are no longer standing.

Was is that long ago?

Image
Two of my favorites shots from a summer evening at Washington Square Park. The camera was the Canon FT with the Canon 50mm F 1.4 FL. The film was Tri-X. what else.

Long days' late light

Image
Shot in late afternoon or evening at around the summer solstice when the days are long and the dying light is wonderful.

Have a peaceful week

Country road

Image
Sometimes a fairly prosaic scene can yield interesting images if the light is right. This road was shot after a brief summer shower that created the sheen and as the sun was setting late in the day. It all worked to make what are, for me, nice photos.
