The Greenpoint water tower

These images were made last winter when these towers were still standing. Alas, with progress and gentrification they have bit the dust. What can you do. The political statement written on it has nothing to do with this blog. We stay totally out of politics here,

Coney Island off season is fascinating, Here are old scans taken in the early seventies. All the summer crowds are gone and the place assumes an eerie look of solitude. Man those Kodacheomes hold up pretty well.

Segesta long ago

This is a photo shot at the amphitheater of Segesta, Sicily, a long time ago. It may be 1972. It was shot with the Canon FT and the 50mm F 1.4 Canon FL lens on Tri-X Pan developed in D-76 1:1 dilution.
I like this photo very much.

Getting ready for the big feast

La festa del ventuno d'agosto is Castelammare's biggest event. It lasts three days and ends on the 21st of August with an impressive procession and spectacular fireworks. The town is getting ready.

Then and now

Because photography freezes time it allows us to see  how places have changed. This butcher shop was on 187th  near Arthur Avenue. Street when the black and white image was taken. It has moved upscale and is inside the Arthur Avenue Market. The meat is all wrapped in plastic and the de riguer  prosciutto di Parma adorns the show case.
