Coney Island has undergone a rebirth but I love the old photos that depict the seedier side. It was a sunny April fools day in 1975 when Coney Island was waking up; no crowds yet. The film was Ektachrome 100P and the camera was my old Yashicamat 124 that introduced me to that wonderful world of medium format shooting.

Majestic is not a term I use too often because I'm jaded and cynical but when it comes to the Brooklyn Bridge this encomium is appropriate. I cannot stop photographic this structure that is the symbol of New York City throughout the world. These images date from the early eighties when the DUMBO area was beginning to be gentrified.

A Sunday morning in early summer in Madison Square Park in Manhattan. A film crew was about to set up but a man who must have had a tough night was laying on the pavement totally knocked out. No one paid the minimum attention to him. My interest was merely to photograph this total indifference but I will also plead guilty of my own detachment.

I was in Rotondi, Italy, a very small town north east of Naples and needed some dollars cashed into lire. The friend whom I was visiting took me to this watch repair man who did some currency exchange on the side. From the photos it's easy to see his enthusiasm for his craft. He did give me a better rate than the bank.
