This exquisite Greek Vase is in the permanent collection of the Whitaker  Museum in Motia (Mozia) a small island in Northwest Sicily. Here salt flats are used to make the most wonderful sea salt. Withaker was an English Marsala wine producer.

Zucchine are very versatile and when paired with good canned tuna in olive oil, a very flavorful sauce is the result. I used imported Italian spaghetti always al dente for a simple but delicious lunch.

This is the beautiful golf course in Rapallo, Liguria, Italy. A very peaceful place to play.

My first attempt at tempura. After Italian food I love Japanese cuisine. I tried making this popular dish and it wasn't a disappointment. Hopefully my next try will be even better.

Where are they now? Photographs freeze a moment in time and when you look at them afyer many yeras you get the weird feeling that years from now photos of us will also feel odd. Where does time go? This photo of Piazza Sam Marco in Venice wash shot from St.Mark's Cathedral's roof with a folding Kodak Retina camera. The film was Kodachrome II and the year was 1967. It's ne of my first photos. Thank's to Kodachrome's stable dyes, it seems just like yesterday. Of course today there are bigger crowds and more pigeons.

Classic Sicilian cold weather fare: pasta 'cu maccu, or pasta with dried fava beans. A very healthy dish that is rich in fiber and protein. I'm crazy for fava beans, fresh or died.

On previous posts I've raved about the qualities of Anscochrome 64 slide film. It was hard to find and I mostly used Kodachrome for my slides. Nevertheless, the Ansco film had almost a poetic and mystical feel to it. This is a macro shot dating back to the summer of 1974, shot with a Nikon FTn and the superb 55mm F 3.5 macro Nikkor lens.

The zucchina, singular and zucchine, plural in Italian or zucchini in the USA is a very versatile squash. I prepared pappardelle with a zucchini pesto. I then added fried zucchini to finish the dish. A pretty picture and a delicious dish.

Castellammare del Golfo the way it was back in 1969. This man was selling fish door to door with his caty and donkey. Now this very street is full of air B&B's and very few places to park. But it's a great historical image.

A variation on the so called Sunday gravy or meat sauce or ragu. I used chopped pork for a richer flavor. The pasta was an unusual one from Italy that had no name on the package but was flavorful and the sauce ws very rich.

A candid portrait of my wonderful aunt Terina in Sicily. I miss her dearly.

Summer time in Sicily usually features pasta con salsa. It is understood that salsa means fresh tomato sauce. With the local tomatoes it's absolutely delicious.
