Makari, sunset

I usually avoid shooting sunsets; too corny, too cliche. But we planned to be at this lovely restaurant, the Azzurro Makari just in time to enjoy the setting sun. Makari is a hamlet on the way to the very touristy San Vito Capo and this restaurant is absolutely exceptional. I could not help taking a photo.

Thinking of New York

Please note that I do not share the de rigueur enthusiasm for graffiti. I believe that these so called artists are really vandals when they apply their "pieces" on private and public buildings. However some designs have merit and they do make for interesting photos to post. These were in Greenpoint, Brooklyn a true center of hipsterism.

Thinking of winter during Ferragosto

Here in Sicily today we celebrate Ferragosto. It is the peak summer event. There a religious reason for this, the excuse that is, and it has to to with something that involves the Madonna  I had very little religious training so I cannot be sure what holiday it is. Nevertheless it's very hot here and what better way to sort of cool off than with a wintry scene. Keep cool.

These are not from Sicily

This beautiful orange tree was shot at the Planting Fields Arboretum in Long Island, NY. A great place to visit especially in the winter.

It's always the light

Yes, it's always the light that makes the picture. Here are two of my better efforts to capture this in Paris.

Red rose

This stunning red rose is also from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. The light makes the image as always.

Pani cunzatu

Pani cunzatu literally means fixed up bread. It's a traditional way to enjoy warm freshly home  baked
bread here in Sicily. This was an event that was planned spontaneously on the street where our house is and by our superbly friendly neighbors. A street event with delicious results.

I balconi di Trapani

The balconies in old Trapani are just wonderful. They date mostly from the high Sicilian Baroque and make for nice images.

Morning in Trapani

This lovely city right on the north western corner of Sicily is an absolute must to visit. It is not very crowded but it's absolutely enchanting.
