These are archival shots of the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Brooklyn. An annual event that features the lift of the giglio. It's a tall structure carried by so called carriers and lifters. A wonderful neighborhood event much appreciated by the new hipsters that populate the area. It gives them a certain ethnic authenticity, if you know what I mean.

Back to the Big Apple

The more I travel, the more I appreciate New York. I just love it's confusion bordering at an almost anarchic way of life. Unfortunately, lately we have had a series of mayors who have not been true New Yorkers and have tried albeit unsuccessfully to make the city into something that it was never meant to be.
