Have a splendid Sunday

Ritorno a Trapani

Image
Going back to Trapani is always a pleasant experience. This ancient city is a total gem. No one going to Sicily should miss it. After visiting one can take the super high tech cable car that goes to Erice that overlooks the city.

Scopello, il cortile

Image
Scopello has been featured many times but I still find images worth sharing. Here are images of the untrance to the cortile or court yard of the baglio that is a closed courtyard with houses all opening to it's inner yard and protected by a single entrance.

Have a beautiful weekend

Che bel castello

Image
What a beautiful castle from which Castellammare del Golfo gets it's pretty bane. It neans castle in the sea of the Gulf that is named after the town. Kind of a circular naming, if you will. This is a recent digital image.

Give me a break

Image
Versailles although somewhat overdone in it's ostentatious opulence, is still a wonderful place to visit. I cannot understand this anachronistic addition of a totally in-congruent piece of sculpture that according to my humble opinion is quite ugly. Of course no one has the guts to say that word anymore even when it is totally apropos. I cannot understand why this piece had to be added. It's like adding a silly modern statue inside a Greek temple. Just leave it alone. As i say, give me a break.

A modest villa

Image
We are back in the Fraginesi region and although the term modest may be somewhat ronic, these type of villas or ville - I look down on languages that add  an S to make plurals...so prosaic -  are not uncommon in this region. This villa belongs to dear friends of ours in Sicily. The place is outrageously beautiful and the view is spectacular. BTW, these are out of camera JPEG's without any manipulation. Yes, the sky is that beautiful and saturated. It's Sicily, after all. it's Sicily!

Fraginesi

Image
The Fraginesi region of Castellammare del Golfo holds pleasant memories because it's where me and my cousins used to spend our summers on our grand parents' farm. The area is now much developed and sub divided but there are still the mountains that are very "serious" and imposing.

Have a sweet week
