Enjoy your Saturday

Yes indeed but eat well. Food is after all the most wonderful thing in life. Be Italian in the sense that you must live to eat not eat to live. Eating well is after all the best revenge. I hope your brunch is healthfully delicious.

Merenda means a snak. In sicily I eat something like this an hour or so after my cornetto and cappuccino and my first espresso. I say that in Italy the espresso is so good that one should kneel in front of the barista before drinking it. It is that good.

If you got 25,000.00 burning a hole in your pocket, Leica has the lens for you

The prototype of the 50 mm Noctilux F .95. To say that it's a little pricey is like calling the QE II a boat.

Have a wonderful weekend

Amazing child

I found this amazing child of Greek origins in a crab restaurant in Baltimore's harbor. She actually worked helping her parents in many ways and exuded such a precocious nature that she amazed me. I took some images that I wand to share in my blog. She must be quite a toung lady now.

My neighborhood park

Although this is not le Jardin de Luxembourg In Paris or  la Villa Boroghese in Rome, this very large neighborhood park plays an important role for the ecology of the area. Not to mention it's a great place to walk the dog. These images were made recently in late afternoon light.

A modest villa

This villa in Castellammare del Golfo in Sicily reminds me of the ones the Romans built for their pleasures. The view alone is amazing. It is ownded by a dear friend of mine.

Why I go or one of the main reasons

For that last 5 years  or so we have made our annual trip to Paris and there I make my pilgrimage at the Musèe D'Orsay. This was a railroad station that a famous Italian architect transformed into a spectacular exibition space. But the real reason I visit is to see this amazing Monet. I adore this painting so I quietly watch and take in it's beauty and power. Afterwards I leave  totally satisfied. My wife took this image and she captured serious contentment. The feeling is ineffable.
BTW, this image can be found as wallpaper on Macs. Once you see the original using it as wallpaper is a sacrilege. I just love Paris....what can I say.

Paris, a love affair

In the so called summer of love, I met the woman of my dreams  with whom I'm still madly in love. Unfortunately she had a ticket to fly. After she departed on Icelandic Airlines, I felt my world going to pieces. I got a passport on the same day at Rockefeller Center. got a ticket also on Ielandic to Luxenbourg and went after her. This is before any of the modern communication devices, smartphones or any sort of instant messaging and it was when  there still existed so called overseas operators to place calls to Europe etc. I sent a telegram to the American Express office in London because I knew she would be there and hoped for the best. Well because of synchronicity she  got the message and met my plane at Luxembourg. We went to Paris the next day after changing at Metz and arrived at the Gare de L'est. At this point my love affair with this sublime city began. Wel we have been back many times. The first photo may be from 1969  while the other is from April of this year. I can only say that it was much quieter then. But I must say Parigi ti amo, I love you.
This year marked the 50th anniversaryb of that glorious event so we booked on Iceland Air and we went in April so we would see the famous chestnuts in blossom, as the song goes.

Have a wonderful week

Have a wonderful Sunday

The croissants are to die for but the coffee touted as being Italian is undrinkable. When you are in Italy you really should kneel in front of the espresso. It's that good. I would order cacao or tea. But Paris still has it's charms. I love France.
