Guidaloca

Image
I love Sicily in the winter when everything is green and lush and the ground is covered with wild flowers. It's a time of very few tourists and the  beaches are great for taking long strolls. This is the beach named Guidaloca a few kilometers west of Castellammare. Unlike the main beach, the Plaja, it kept the Spanish name, that is pure sand, Guidaloca has pebbles like the beaches in the Riviera.  These photos were shot in late afternoon to take advantage of the magical light at that time.

Have a beautiful weekend

This is one of the boys partaking in the enrichment programs offered by the WK Hoerning Fund which I have written about several times. The camera was the Canon 1D-III. The lens was the Canon 24-105 F 4 L that is on permanent loan to my daughter.

Mystyc

The of whaling town of Mystic in western Connecticut is a splendid place to visit. It's touristy but in a tasteful manner. I just love to go there. These photos are from last year's trip. Sadly, because of many family activities, we weren't able to make our annua trip there this year. As Mets' fans say, wait until next year.

When one photo suffices

This is one of my better travel shots and I want to post it again. It was shot in Siena, Italy with the Nikon D-200. The time of day, dusk, was perfect.

La Bedda Matri

Image
La Bedda Matri, in Sicilian stands for the Madonna, the beautiful mother whom Sicilians adore more than God. It's complicated as most religions are so it's better to avoid theology at all cost. What we have here is the procession that occurs yearly on the 21st of August in Castellammare del Golfo where tens of thousands participate. It is a spectacle that involves the faithful and moves them to the point where the simulacrum in effect becomes the actual Madonna. No matter what, it makes for interesting photos. These are from last August. The camera was the Canon G-11, an advanced  point and shoot model.
